A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Menana Obiku has stated that the existing zoning formula of elective and appointive positions in Ughelli South Local Government Area favours the Ewu people to produce the next council chairman of Ughelli South.
Obiku who made this known on Friday during a chat with journalists, said Ughelli South Local Government Area have two zoning constituencies, Ughievwen as constituency I, while constituency two is made up of Olomu and Ewu.
He noted that within each of the constituencies, there are zoning structures between Olomu and Ewu, while Ughievwen have Ughievwen north comprising Uhurie and Orhowhe, and Ughievwen South comprise Ukpedi and Owhawha.
He revealed that there are clandestine moves by some political heavy weights to undermine the zoning arrangement between Ewu and Olomu to ensure Olomu retains the position of the next council chairman which supposed to be produce by the Ewu axis of constituency 2.
According to Obiku, “come 2021, it is the turn of Ewu axis of constituency 2 to produce the next chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, any move to undermine it may spell doom for the PDP in the area.
“Because at the expiration of Hon. Paul Etaga’s tenure as Ughelli South Local Government Council chairman in 2017, his second term bid was frustrated by leaders and elders of the local government who said it was only one tenure and that pave way for the election of Hon. Richard Kofi as the chairman of the council.
“Now that the tenure of Dr. Richard Kofi an indigene of Olomu Kingdom is coming to an end, the Ewu Kingdom of constituency 2 has to take their turn in adherence to the one tenure arrangement”, Obiku added.
Obiku called on all Ewu politicians to come together in one voice in order to produce the next chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council come 2021.
