The chairman of Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr Isaac Apoveta has called on security agencies to checkmate the influx of suspected internet fraudsters also known as Yahoo Boys that has taken over his Ofuoma community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
He made this call during Security Stakeholders Summit/Peace Security Meeting tagged: ‘Ember Months and Security Challenges’held at the Ughelli Area Command organized by the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC.
According to Akpoveta, “I use Ofuoma my community because if you are talking about insecurity, you have to start from your place because if you see this small boys between the age of 17-25 years of age in the area is very disheartening, but I am glad that the police are coming in quietly to sieve them out and we are glad.
“My community, Ofuoma is a ‘Y’ junction community and is the seat of ‘Yahoo Boys’ and i am appealing to security agents to do more to ensure that they are flushed out.
On his part Delta state Commissioner of Police, Happy Hafiz Inuwa said, During the ember months, the police expects rise in crime because of some festivities that are observed in the period.
“Inuwa who was represented by Ughelli Area Commander, Lawal Adamu Shinkafi said, “We have been doing our best and we shall continue to do so, but we must collectively put ourselves together to ensure that crime in this locality is brought to the barest minimum.
“Monitor suspicious movements of strangers and possibly alert those in authority because security agents are not spirits but work with information given to them”.
On his part, the PCRC chairman, Comrade Blessing Egbagbara JP, said, “Security and Peace are two essential commodities that are very easy to buy if well handled and therefore it should not be left alone for only one man or agency to to handle.
“We saw the need to build a bridge between the police authority and the community as they operate, in order to function effectively and we are doing our best to render and support the police in terms of vital intelligence gathering, necessary and the use of our time to ensure that communities under the jurisdiction of the Ughelli Area Command and Delta state is efficiently policed.”
