The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has vowed to defend it’s lands and citizens against marauding armed herdsmen that have constituted a major security challenge in all parts of the country.
The President General Of UPU worldwide, Olorogun Moses Taiga, who spoke to newsmen after a closed door meeting with all the traditional rulers of Urhobo nation at the palace of the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South, held that Urhobo nation will use every arsenal at its disposal to defend her land against banditry and insurgency.
According to Taiga, “We are calling on all those that are interfering with our lands to be careful we do not accept any interference from anybody in Urhobo land.
“Our wives, ladies has to go farm because that is what we are known for and if anybody dare to interfere in our lands, we will reciprocate, though we are not interested in war but you try to give us war, we will standby and defend ourselves.
“We are nice, fair and careful with our neighbors and will not interfere with their activities and they should not also interfere with our activities”.
On his part, the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Richard Ogbon, Oghoro I, JP, said Nigerians should bury their heads in prayers for God to save it’s citizens because nowhere is safe in Nigeria.
“Something serious should be done by every dick and harry to see that we are able ward off, especially the Fulanis and our children that are involved in crime, we all need serious prayers, call on God to touch the spirit of our children to know that he has given a law that we should not kill.
The monarch further blamed the high level of insecurity in the country to the high rate of youth unemployment, calling on government at all levels to as a matter of urgency begin to engage the youths meaningfully.
“Nowhere in the country is safe. And like the saying goes, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Once our youths are engaged meaningfully, it will help to reduce this problem to the barest minimum or even eradicate it completely.” the centenarian monarch revealed.
