Six persons suspected to be internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ on Friday night reportedly perished in a lone accident while celebrating their feat in Ughelli area of Delta State.
It was gathered that some of the deceased in their early 20s were students Delta state polytechnic, Oghara.
The accident according sources occurred near Ekiugbo junction at about 8pm along the Agbarho-Ughelli axis of the East-West Road as one of them bought a 2021 Lexus GX 460.
The victims identified as Kelvin, Lawson, Tonero, Collins, Happy and one other were celebrating the arrival of Lexus car that arrived Ughelli around 5pm while the accident happened around 8pm.
“They lodged in a very popular hotel at Ekiugbo junction and they were celebrating a Lexus car which one of them had bought after recording a break through in the Yahoo business.
“After much drinking the hotel, they decided to text run the vehicle and in that process, they rammed into a stationed Caterpillar where they all died on the spot as the vehicle was beyond repair.
“The six of them died on the spot,” a source who claimed to have witnessed the evacuation of the dead bodies volunteered. The source added that the new vehicle was damaged beyond repair.
This is coming barely a week after a similar accident also claimed the lives of two suspected Yahoo Boys near Wetland Hotel in Ughelli.
Contacted, the public relations officer of the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kenneth Ogbonna said his office was yet to be briefed on the incident.
