Shame As DESTMA, Sanitation Officers In Public Fight During Exercise In Ughelli North

It was a show of shame as the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ughelli North turned into a public fight between the officers of the Department of Environment and Delta State Traffic Management Authority, DESTMA, as both mobilized to defend their rights during the exercise in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Environmental sanitation officers had mounted roadblock at the ever busy Post Office roundabout with a mobile court sitting.
Trouble started when an unidentified two DESTMA officials, were arrested at Post office roundabout for violating sanitation laws.
One of the DESTMA officials who was on uniform told them that they were heading to work but the Environmental officers were not satisfied with their explanation and they were asked to alight from the tricycle.
Angered by the actions of the Environmental officers, unidentified DESTMA officials who was not on uniform held that they were being embarrassed in the public and that generated into a heated argument.
The argument generated into a public fight between environmental officers and DESTMA officials before they were separated.

Not satisfied with the incident, DESTMA officials went and mobilized their colleagues back to the scene and they were seen issuing warnings to a female senior health officer.

The Director of DESTMA, Ughelli North, Mr Desmond Adu could not be contacted for comment as at the time of this report as calls to his mobile line were connected.
A Task Force member lamented the attitude of DESTMA officials said, “The boys from the DESTMA office, did not behave well, because the matter has been resolved before the are coming back for another fight.”
When contacted, the HOD Environment, Ughelli North, Mrs Victory Ikpibaku said, “I was not there when the incident happened, but one of my Health officers who told me did not give details of what transpired. However we are going to treat that matter by Monday’. She said.
