Residents stranded as flood sacks Asaba

A six-hour downpour on Saturday led to a severe flooding in Asaba, Delta State, leaving in its trail damaged property and stranded commuters.

It was gathered that major roads, such as Okpanam, Nnebisi, Direct Labour, DBS and Inter-Bua roundabouts, were flooded, causing commercial activities to grind to a halt in the city.

The flooding also affected the premises of the Delta Broadcasting Service, buildings housing government agencies, the state police command headquarters and some banks.

Several business centres, schools and private residences were ravaged by the flood.

Speaking on the flooding, the Commissioner for Information, Patrick Ukah, said residents must exercise caution, whether they were driving or walking on the road, in order to avoid any tragic incident due to downpour.

Ukah, in a statement by his media assistant, Mr. Sam Ijeh, said contractors recently awarded drainage and flood control projects would be mobilised as soon as the raining season was over.
