Ray Wilkins says he is ‘really disappointed’ Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has launched a move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The Frenchman has emerged as one of Conte’s top targets this summer, with the Blues said to have agreed a £36million deal to bring him to west London.
Bakayoko, who has also been linked with Manchester United, enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, playing over 40 games as Monaco won the French title and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
But Wilkins does not appear overly impressed with the 22-year-old, suggesting academy graduate Nathaniel Chalobah deserves a run in the side over an incoming signing.
The former Chelsea assistant manager told talkSPORT: ‘I was really disappointed to read they are looking at Bakayoko from Monaco.
‘He is 23 years of age, French and doesn’t get near the national side. But it was quoted Chelsea might be paying £32m.
‘Well, in Nathaniel they have got a footballer that can play exactly the same but just needs an opportunity to get in there and play.
