Protest: Ughelli North Chairman Imposes 12hrs Curfew, Warn Against Unlawful Protest

The chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state, Hon Chief Godwin Adode has imposed a 12hrs curfew from 6pm to 6am till further notice in Ughelli after an unlawful protest by irate youths which led to the destruction and setting over 20 trucks ablaze and  alleged killing of some persons in the melee.

 

Adode while addressing newmen said,”This curfew is important at this moment because of the recent happenings in Ughelli and it is disheartening that properties and lives is lost in an unlawful protest embarked upon by youths from neighbouring local government in other to give Ughelli north a bad name.

 

“From reports gathered, we found out that the protesters are from other neighbouring local governments area. They will converge in Ughelli to ferment trouble and run back to their homes.

 

“As a local government, we will not accept it from and anyone as we are equally using this curfew to warn against any further break down of law and other.

 

“While we are working to ensure peace is returned, the security agencies with not tolerate anybody found wanting during this period as the wrath of  laws will be used against legitimately.”
