POLICE, GOV OBOREVWORI & THAT INCITING ARREST IN SAPELE

By Zik Gbemre,

Who is responsible for the arrest of the man who bathed in centre of a street road in Sapele in protest against non caring administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Chairman of Sapele Local Government?

Are they police men who were on plain clothes or thugs of politicians that arrested the man for lawfully expressing his frustration for living in a street that has a pool of stagnant water?

The man didn’t fabricate lies against the Delta government led by Oborevwori. What oppression? If it is true that the plain clothes men were police then it means the Delta State Police Command are being used by politicians to intimidate and harass citizens.

Whoever is responsible for the arrest should release the man with immediate effect. The man didn’t commit any offence. The security operatives including police should concentrate efforts in fighting crime like rampant kidnapping, robbery, illegal bunkering and other violent crimes in Delta state.

Nigeria is not a police state. We are told Nigeria is practicing democracy and democracy emphasises freedom of speech and peaceful agitations. The man who bathed on the road as seen in the video didn’t carry any dangerous weapon. He merely bathed in the centre of the road to express his grievance against the Delta State government and Sapele local government administration.

As far as Delta State Police Command and Delta State Government didn’t deny the online video it means the police is believed to have arrested the man on the order of Governor Oborevwori and Sapele Council Chairman for bathing in a pool of stagnant water in the centre of a Sapele street road in Delta.

As noted by Ogheneovo Olori in online platform addressed to the Director-General Delta State Orientation Bureau, “What led to the arrest of the young man who took his bath on the road which he called Okowa/Sheriff swimming pool is not enough reason for his arrest. Even the defence of contacting diseases seems laughable considering the dungeon our indigenous people are living in.

Allowing the young man without arrest, before constructing the road as if he is the brain behind the construction could bring glory to him than the governor, is the logical reason for his arrest. This means, the government stooped too low to have made such decision.

Do a thorough research since it is not known to the government that people are suffering. There are people that are drinking from the gutters on daily bases in the state. A lot of people bath in the streams and rivers like our ancestors in this 21st century.

Not that it is convenient for them but they cannot afford the type you are using. If you have access to many areas in Warri, you will ask yourself questions. The young man should be appreciated, rather than been humiliated for bringing out the government inefficiency in this area.

The government should have allowed the young man to take that glory instead of killing mosquito with a hammer.

You have been in government and have travelled to many countries in the world where social amenities are seen as crucial/commitment. Our citizens need apology from government from time to time for their inability to fix our roads, unemployment, insecurity, lack of housing as well as means of transportation among others.

Justifying this arrest should therefore means, the government will provide a comfortable accommodation & employment for him, not the police cell, because, he has no befitting job, hence, he got involved in content creation, and government should tar the roads so that he will not see a similar place to bath along our roads again.

Democracy is willingness and not by force. We should always uphold the social responsibility the government is owing us. Speaking the truth to reality should always be our guiding angel.”
