A team of the Delta State Police special squad detailed to Ughelli North by the Commissioner Abaniwonda Olufemi, have arrested former secretary of Oteri community youth for engaging in alleged cult related clash in an undisclosed hotel within Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that the suspect was arrested by the police and a Barreta pistol was recovered from his apartment in the community upon searching.
According to SP Edafe Bright the State Police Public Relations Officer, “Acting on credible intelligence on the peddling of arms and an intended cult clash within Oteri community in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State.
“On 14/06/2024 at about 1430hrs operatives on special assignment deployed to Ughelli led ASP Julius Robinson trailed a notorious cultist and a mastermind of the intended cult clash to a hotel (name withheld) in Ughelli.
“And the suspect one Felix Egbe ‘m’ aged 37yrs of Oteri Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State and a member of Eiye confraternity also former Youth Secretary of Oteri Community Ughelli North Delta State was arrested.
“Upon interrogation, suspect took operatives to his residence where a Barretta pistol was recovered. Investigation is ongoing.”
In a related development a suspected kidnapper and armed robber Ughelli northeast died from bullet injuries sustained in a gun battle with security agencies.
SP Edafe Bright held that in a case of terrorizing related to incessant cases of armed robbery/kidnapping along Adjekota-Ogor communities axis of Ughelli North of Delta State, at about 2347hrs of 20/06/2024, ASP Julius Robison and team on CPS’s special assignment in a sting operation stormed a criminal hideout along Ughelli – Patani road by an abandoned filling station.
“The hoodlums on sighting the Police opened fire on the team which was given a superior response by the police, in the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained serious gun shot injuries while others escaped.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment. Two Baretta pistol and five (5) rounds of live Ammunition were recovered, manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.”
