Omubaye Assures Ughelli Descendant Of Infrastructures, Human Capital Development

Newly elected President General of Ughelli Descendants Union (UDU), Chief Pius Omubaye has assured that he will liaise with relevant government authorities and oil companies operating in the kingdom for infrastructure and human capital development of communities in the kingdom.
Fielding questions from journalists shortly after taking oath of office, recently at the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Chief Omubaye said the new leadership of the UDU will do all within its powers the next four years to draw the attention of various government intervention agencies and private corporate organizations to the needs of the people of the kingdom, especially in the areas of roads and employment of youths.
“Our task is to collectively draw attention to the developmental needs of the different communities that make up Ughelli Kingdom. We will liaise with government, government intervention agencies- NDDC, DESOPADEC, oil companies operating in the kingdom, our representatives in local, state and federal government to make sure that whatever that is meant for every Nigerian gets to us.
“We will ensure that we are remembered in budget allocation and constituency projects. We will also work with all the president generals to see that each community decides what they get done. This Exco solicits the support of all Ughelli Descendants irrespective of social, economic, political and trado-cultural status. Therefore let all hands, be on deck to lift our kingdom to its zenith.” He said
One hundred and twenty seven delegates were selected to participate in the election of a 16-man executive that will oversee the affairs of the kingdom for the next four years. Only the office of the publicity secretary was contested between Mrs. Theresa Egone Onomuodeke who defeated Dr. Victor Omoraka with a vote margin of 83: 43.
According to her “it was difficult but like they say, preparation makes great. I am so happy that I won the election because I worked for it. I will work with the president generals to disseminate information to all the communities in Ughelli Kingdom. Everyone will be carried along no one will be left in the dark. I thank the royal majesty, the electoral committee for how the elections were well conducted.
On his part Ochuko Gabriel, Youth leader from Ekiugbo community described the process as genuine, peaceful, free and fair. “Before now there was no youth wing in UDU but now that we have been given this platform, I appeal to the youths to queue behind us so that we can achieve great things,”
Every other office including that of the President General was returned unopposed. Chief Pius Omubaye (PG); Chief Moses Erhabor (1st Vice PG); Mr. Umurhowho Superior (2nd Vice PG); Mr. Sunny Akponana (Sec Gen); Mr. Paul Eseoghene (Asst. Sec Gen) and Mr. Akpofure George (Treasurer).
Others were: Mr. Onoriose Reuben (Financial Sec ); Chief Paul Ubor (Asst. Fin Sec), Mrs. Theresa Egone Onomuodeke (Publicity Sec), Mr. Ogheneovo Onoharigho (Organizing Sec), Barr Oteheri Idogun (Legal Adviser) Mr Odjogbo Reuben (Auditor), Umukoro Edna (Women leader), Lady Felicia Onajite Erhisere (Asst. women leader) and Ochuko Gabriel (Youth leader).
The event was presided over by the Ovie of Ughelli, HRM, Evang. Wilson Oharisi III and members of the Ughelli traditional council of chiefs led by Chief Miller Uloho.
