One lesson to learn from the Okuama saga is the need to have pragmatic leaders in power. When you give power to a weak person to lead, perhaps because of sentiment, it hurts in the future.
The Delta State Governor, in my binoculars, failed in the matter in hand. It’s surprising that a sitting Governor and Chief Security Officer of a State could not access Okuama that is under his watch, to access the true situation of things.
The UPU is another big failure, and this may continue for a very, very long time because politicians dictate those who lead the union, and, in most cases, they handpick people without class and cloud. The UPU president general ought to be a man of national look, honour, class and reputation like the days of Mowoe, Salubi, Ejoor, etc. A whole Urhobo nation having a UPU president general who struggles to book appointment before accessing the Governor of the state, is not only a slap on our face but also shame on us all.
If Urhobo must be great, that is when we are ready, we must be freely ready to elect a national leader to head the UPU. Having Professor Sam Oyovbaire or Professor G. G. Darah would have redeemed Urhobo of the current mess in Ewu. Painfully, the never-never travelled out of Asaba and Ughelli politicians assembled in Udu and planned to install their preferred candidate, and the result is all that we see.
Kudos to Ughere Blessed, the Youth Wing President for his efforts. Ughere would have done much if only he had a say of his own. The politicians would also not let him be, and they would want him to endlessly live under their apron string. He has made his voice heard even without the parent body, and nobody, unless a demon would not pat Ughere on the back.
With the Ovie of Ewu being declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over the murder of 17 soldiers is enough for all and sundry of Urhobo extraction to now know that there is leadership vacuum in the UPU.
Over to you, their media miscreants!
