The Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has commended members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Delta State Chapter for their passion in driving human oriented programmes.
Governor Okowa made the commendation during an audience with leaders of the Association, led by its Chairman, Comrade Pat Gbemudu.The event was held at the Conference room, Government House Asaba, Delta State.
The Governor who frowned at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along the streets and kerbs by residents in spite of the existence of Public Private waste collectors, lauded Delta NAWOJ for taking it upon itself to embark on regular environmental cleanliness campaign through their program tagged “Delta Must Be Clean”.
He urged the Association to continue to help Government in reorienting the minds of residents, and reiterated Government’s commitment to sanitize the state.
Governor Okowa expressed satisfaction with the role of Delta NAWOJ in educating the public on the importance of knowing their genotype using their tool of “Wetin Be your genotype campaign” adding that the activity complements the effort of his wife Dame Edith, to combat sickle cell disorder in the state. He described as laudable, the NAWOJ Frith Club which helps to divert the attention of secondary school students from all vestiges of crime, especially with the high level of decadence in the society.
Governor Okowa pointed out that Delta NAWOJ is an Association that is truly public service oriented and assured the Association of Government’s support. The Chairman of Delta NAWOJ, Comrade Pat Gbemudu congratulated the Governor on his victory at the polls and successful inauguration saying that his development strides across the twenty five local government areas of the state, contributed to his success.
Comrade Gbemudu said that the visit was to intimate the Governor on the activities of NAWOJ in Delta state and to see how the Association could help to carry out his vision for a stronger Delta, in line with NAWOJ function of ensuring the right of the public to know the truth.
