Oborevwori Calls For Mutual Understanding Between Traditional Rulers And Their Subjects

 

DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called for mutual understanding between traditional rulers and their subjects.

The governor made the call on Thursday while presenting Staff of Office to HRM Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo, Urhukpe I, the Ovie of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Oborevwori stated that his administration relies a lot on the traditional institution to reach out to the people.

The governor said, “Your Royal Majesty, I appeal to you to improve on the sanctity of your exalted office by leading your people to greater prosperity in an environment marked by peace, love, understanding and mutual respect between the throne and the people.

“I urge you to be open and accessible while upholding at all times, the virtues of justice, fair play and equity in all your dealings with your subjects. In everything you do and in every decision you take, I implore you to place the interest of the majority of your people and the fear of God, above other considerations”.

“Let me reiterate that government will continue to rely on the leadership institution as a veritable medium of reaching the people.

“The traditional institution is priceless in any African society, no viable alternative has been found, government will therefore continue to treat the traditional institution as a trustworthy partner in the social, economic and cultural spheres.

“Please, ensure that you encourage free flow of communication, dialogue and consultation with all segments of your kingdom; it is obvious that you are truly accepted by your people; endeavor to reciprocate their love.”

Oborevwori added, “On behalf of myself, the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate His Royal Majesty for the enviable calm that attended his ascension to the royal stool of his forebears.

“I also felicitate with the people of Ewu-Urhobo and everyone in the kingdom for their cooperation, love and contributions, which made today’s occasion a reality.”

The Chairman Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Richard Kofi, in an address that he read at the occasion, pledged the council’s unflinching support for the Oborevwori’s MORE agenda.

He assured the people of Ewu Kingdom that he will continue to sustain the legacy of cooperation and trust that he inherited from their ancestors and to improve on the enviable attribute of peace, tranquility and co-operation known in the kingdom.
