Muslims want Nigeria to lead Middle East peace process

A coalition of Muslim organisations in Abuja has urged the Federal Government to lead a global initiative to end the crisis between Israel and Palestine.

This was contained in a communique of the organisations special meeting held over the recent declaration by President Donald Trump that American Embassy would be moved to Jerusalem.

The communique by Abdullahi Imam Ishaq of the Muslim Professionals in Da’awah (MPD) on behalf of other groups wondered why the United Nations (UN) abandoned the rule of natural justice in the case of the Palestinians at the Security Council.

While calling for more action from the Arab world to back Turkey’s move on the Palestinians cause, the organisations condemned President Trump’s pronouncement as travesty, violation of international peace agreement of a two-state solution.

“We call on the Nigerian Government to speak strongly against the Trump Zionist declaration. We urged the international community to adopt the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanction) on Israel,” it said.
