MOTORISTS and residents of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on the council chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo to save them from the deplorable condition of internal roads in the area.
This call was made by a motorist, Mr Jakpor Priest whose vehicle was damaged due to the bad state of one of the roads by High court, Ughelli.
Majorly all internal roads in Ughelli North, are not motorable either with motor, Motorcycle or Keke and no palliative measures has been taken by the local government.
Some of the roads that needed urgent attention are, Isodje junction, Oteri, Emurotu road linking Ughelli main market, Olotu, Akpodiete junction by Afiesere and Isoko road, Olori road linking the East West road, Aroh road before Heroes of Faith, Adonovwe by central garage, Adagharagba, Ahwinahwi and Oghenevweta respectively.
Other roads are, Post Office by High Court that is less than 200 meters to the Ughelli North seat of power where the Ughelli North council chairman must pass on daily basis to his office, Oveto, Ezewu, Iwhreko by Deeper Life Church and the opposite street, Onoharigho at Up Agbarho, Uloho Avenue before and after Ufor hospital and amongst others.
Narrating their ordeals to newsmen, Mr Jakpor said,” The deplorable states of roads in Ughelli is becoming unbearable as currently all the links roads are nothing to write home about.
“My truck broke down at post office road by the High Court and the goods I carried were destroyed because of gallop that one of the truck entered.
“The chairman of the local government passes through this place on daily basis and I believed he may have saw my vehicle that was there for nearly two days.
“What I am appealing for now is, if they cannot construct roads during this raining season, the relevant authorities should endeavor to provide temporary measures to ease the suffering.
A Keke rider who lamented the extent of the roads damage, Kevwe said, “We currently suffering in this hard economic situation and the road in Ughelli are contributing to our suffering because we obe cannot use his Keke to carry passengers and ride smoothly from National to Olomu.
“The bad spots from national to Police station are something else and the alternate road leading from Market to Emurotu is appalling /, and when you finally escaped that zone, Isodje junction in Oteri by new road is a swimming pool whenever the rain falls.
“We are calling on the local government council Chairman, to come to our aid by fixing these roads to ease movement and transportation.
“Now that the local governments have financial autonomy, it is the right of the people at the third tiers of the government to enjoy development.
Though the local government council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo could not be contacted neither his CPS for comments but a Supervisory Councilor who spoke on anonymous condition revealed that the council chairman is aware and he is putting measures in place to fix the roads when the rain subsides.
He said, “The council chairman is just waiting for the rains to stop in other to commence work on the road. Our people should bear a little.”
