No fewer than seven children have been reportedly killed by outbreak of meningitis in Jaja village of Gangara ward in Jibia Local government area of Katsina State.
Katsina is the home state of President Muhmmadu Buhari.
Also another 104 children were said to be affected by an outbreak of whooping cough in three villages of Bugaje wards in the same local government area.
It was gathered that the seven victims, who died as a result of the meningitis outbreak which was recorded in the last two to three days, were five males and two females while several others were hospitalized at the health centres of Jaja village.
Residents say that three villages, Unguwar Kuka, Danbawa and Kaishemu, all in Bugaje ward were affected by the outbreak of whooping cough but that no death was recorded so far.
The State’s permanent ministry of health, Dr Kabir Mustapha, who confirmed the incident, said already a team of health personelle were dispatched the day we got the information saying that ‘ we were there we took tolls of what was there and the people there have been educated and those that require medicine we are treating them already.
On the whooping cough, Dr Musphat said “the state epidimelogist shall be contacted because these are issues handled at the level of Primary Health care agency saying that it is only when they reported that actions is taken.”
