The corpse of some of the killed police officers drafted from IRT Abuja, PMF 51 Oghara and Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba in Delta state to rescue the three missing officers in Ohoror community, have been recovered by at by a team of local security agents In Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
Though the identity of the decomposing deceased officers recovered from the bush could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, but it was gathered that the combined team stormed the forest on Sunday and Monday before they could recover some of the corpses.
It would be recalled that on January, 24, 2024, three police officers at a nipping point in Ohoror community, Ughelli North were detailed to respond to a distressed call by one Moses Progress now at large who was allegedly robbed by suspected herdsmen while performing sacrifice to the god of the river under a bridge close to the nipping point.
Inspector Felix Onogho, Inspect Joel Hamidu and Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, with about 119 ammunition, detailed to respond to the distressed call, never returned till date, and the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright never responded to messages sent to him.
However, DSP Edafe who responded to messages nearly three week after the incident occurred said, “The command is seriously on it and I believe we will rescue them soonest.”
The alleged killing of the six officers whom among three of them were identified as, Inspr. Abel Obolum, Sgt. Ayere Paul, and Cyril Obretim and three others identities could not be ascertained, while 15 other are allegedly currently missing as reported by Inspr. Ekeinde Edwin, days later while making his entry after he managed to escape from the herdsmen.
The Delta state Police Image Maker, DSP Edafe Bright, never responded to calls and messages sent to him on the alleged death of the six officers and the missing 15 others.
Despite the unimaginable muteness of the Nigeria Police, corpses of some of the killed officers were between Sunday and Monday, recovered by combine team of local vigilante members from the forest.
It was gathered that, huts of the suspected killer Fulani herdsmen were destroyed during the incident as six corpses have been recovered from Agadama bush, while others are yet to be seen.
A senior security source from the Delta State Police command, Asaba, who confirmed the incident on anonymous condition said, “The recovered corpses of the officers have been deposited at Mariere Central Hospital morgue in Ughelli.
“While depositing them at the morgue, some officials from the Delta State government were with the vigilante members, though it was not confirmed if the officials were representatives of the government.
“They spent over 3hrs at the hospital morgue during the documentation before being attended to at Ughelli Central Hospital.
Another security who spoke said, “No details yet and I will get back to you as we progress.”
Efforts to contact the Delta State Police Officer, DSP Edafe Bright was not successful as text message sent to his mobile line was not replied as the time of this report
