LG Election: Oborevwori, Augoye, Others Lauds Peaceful Process

The speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the local government elections as peaceful as he commend Deltans for coming out to cast their votes willfully.

Speaking at Osubi in Okpe local government area, Oborevwori said, “First of all, we give thanks to God for the peaceful election that is going on and when you have a sellable candidate that is being accepted by the people, things will always go well.

“Our chairmanship candidate of the PDP is accepted across party line, hence the large turnout of the people and from the feelers I am getting, the people are happy to vote for our candidate, we are coasting to victory”.

This is a local government election and it is a grassroot thing so I am glad people are going to their wards and units to decide who they want”.

Also, the commissioner for works, Chief James Augoye commended DSIEC for putting materials together. The exercise for now has been very peaceful and turnout is very impressive, we started very early in ward 10 and this is unit 8 where I voted.

“I want to appeal to the Okpe people to be patient and see to the end of the election. Those who are contesting are all Okpe sons and there is the need for us to understand ourselves.

On his part, the Chairmanship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Okpe local government area, Mr Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa who described the exercise as peaceful.

“As you can see accreditation and voting is going peacefully and it is my believe that at the end I will come out victorious.

Meanwhile at Ughelli North local government, palpable tension was high at the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission Office as security agents aborted an attempt to raze it down by suspected electoral thugs.

It was gathered that on the eve of the local government elections, there were sporadic shooting around DSIEC office but security agents drafted from the state command foiled and dispatched the hoodlums from setting the office on fire.

According to security source, “actually there were some persons lurking around the DSIEC office last night and today but the security agents are on ground to quell any attempt.

The source lamented that tension is currently high here because at 9.40am election materials are yet to arrive at Ughelli DSIEC office.
