The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has elected and return unopposed, Comrade Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoro as the party local government chairman in a peaceful congress in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Ofomukoro and 17 others were returned unopposed by the PDP at a congress held at the Ughelli township stadium at the weekend.
Those elected alongside the chairman elect, Chief Anthony Komoni; Deputy chairman, Mr Sunday Ighokena; Secretary, Mr Ovedje Victor, Youth leader, Mrs Elohor Agbawe; Woman leader, Iyu John; Assistant Sec, Engr. Emmanuel Akposheri, Treasurer, Barr. Peace Odovwo Orovweyah, Legal Adviser, Comrade Emmanuel Tobi Edirin; Financial secretary .
While others are, Mr. David Iferere; Auditor, Mr Godfrey Onyachom Organising Sec,, Chief Felix Ofurhie Publicity Secretary, Mr Austin Akpobome; Asst Publicity secretary, Hon. Harvest Adjarho Eghwrudjakpor, ex-officio, Mrs Blessing Orienvwen, ex-officio, Mr Akpobi Aaron, ex-officio, Mrs. Vivian Mark Akponewhe, ex-officio and Mr Ochuko Kumane ex-officio.
Speaking at the congress, The acting chairman, Pastor Kesiena Nomuoja said, “A true party man must have a successor and we have gathered here to conduct the congress so that the history of Ughelli north will be made a reality.
“What we are doing here today is done across the the other 24 local government areas and for us to win elections in 2027,it has already been established and we must conduct the congress.
And we want to let people know that politics is not a do or die because power belongs to God and that I must die in it and if you die in it, PDP will continue.
Let us compliment our effort to see that the pain of Ughelli north is achieved and if we can’t get a victorious result collectively as a local government, it then means we have failed.
On his part, Chairman elect of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ughelli North Local Government Comr Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoro said, “Today is one of the best day in my life and I am happy with what I see here and this shows that the party is supreme.
Ughelli North is a very complex local government and as a young man, I have leaders that have being in the system before and in life, without consultation, you cannot go anywhere.
“I will always consult my leaders and I believe we are going do better, we are ready to work with all leaders and we lift Ughelli to another level soonest.
‘I contested with some persons but in PDP there is no victor, no vanquish and am ready to work with everybody and ready to reconcile any aggrieved person in other to win elections.”
Also speaking, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo who pledged his loyalty to the party chairman calls for support
“The peaceful disposition and the people that came today show that the party is going forward and now that we have gotten executive,it now for us to support them.
“PDP is the party to beat in Nigeria and now that we have had a reconciliation committee to reconcile all our differences, everybody is going back to the party.”
The Congress was monitored by the Ughelli North Inec Electoral Officer, Osotease Samuel, Assistant Electoral Officer, Osuigwe Nonso and the state Returning Officer,Mr Onyiye Ifeanyi.
