COMBINED team of security operatives made up of the police and local vigilante, have rescued the mother of a bank manager abducted from her residence at Oguname-Olomu in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.
This is just as another kidnapped victim, John Akpoyarobo who was abducted at his residence along Oviri-Ogor road escaped from the kidnappers den.
The victim, Angelina Atiku, aged 65, was abducted last Sunday by a gang of hoodlums who stormed her residence in a commando style and whisked her to an unknown destination.
Confirming her release, an operative of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria who was part of the rescue operation, disclosed that the victim was rescued at Agbarha-Otor community in neighbouring Ughelli North local government area of the state.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said her release was facilitated following the Tuesday escape of one of the victims of the same kidnap gang from their den in Agbarha-Otor adding that one vigilante operative was also shot during the operation.
He said: “Following the escape of the man on Tuesday from their hideout, a team of operatives mobilized to the kidnappers den at Agbarha-Otor, but unfortunately, the hoodlums had relocated to another location and we were able to identify two of the principal suspects.
“However, on Thursday, we invaded the area again following a security tip on where the woman was being held. During the operation, one of our members was shot on the hand by the hoodlums who also fled following the high gun power of the security operatives.”
As security source who also confirmed the escape of Akpoyarobo said, “On one John Akpoyarebor was kidnapped at his residence along Oviri-Ogor road, Ughelli by three unknown gunmen and whisked away in his Toyota hilux van.
Speaking further, the security source held that no contact was made until the escaped.
“After the escaped from the kidnappers den, he informed the vigilante who brought him to the police.”
