On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Igbide Union Asaba Branch hosted its much-anticipated end-of-year party and final meeting for the year at the Chairman’s compound, located behind St. Desmond Filling Station, along the Asaba-Isele-Asaba expressway.
The event, which began promptly at 10:00 a.m., defied the usual concept of “African time” as members and guests arrived punctually, proudly donning the union’s new wrapper and shirt, which served as the official dress code for the occasion.
In his opening speech, Chairman Ikolomi Elisha expressed immense pride in the progress and achievements of the union throughout the year. “Today, we gather not just to celebrate the end of a successful year, but to reflect on the strength of our unity as a people. The Igbide Union Asaba Branch is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together with a shared vision,” he stated.
The Chairman emphasized the importance of preserving Igbide culture and values while adapting to the evolving needs of the community. “As we prepare for 2025, let us remain committed to our goals, our heritage, and the welfare of every member. I want to thank each of you for your support and dedication, especially our executive team, who have worked tirelessly to ensure this union thrives.”
He closed his address by calling on members to continue fostering unity and embracing opportunities for collective growth. “Together, we will achieve greater heights. Igbide ado! Igbo ado!”
The event also included a review of the union’s achievements in 2024, future plans, and moments of laughter and bonding that reaffirmed the collective strength of the Igbide community in Asaba. Members took the opportunity to reconnect with their roots and reflect on their shared heritage.
The General Secretary, Mr. Jacob Onoriode Egborah, who also expressed his heartfelt gratitude appreciated everyone for making the event a success.
The celebration was a vibrant display of unity and culture, marked by traditional greetings of Igbo ado! Igbide Ado! Ishegware! Guests were treated to a sumptuous array of delicacies, including rice, stew, banga soup, and the famed esaroto, complemented by a variety of drinks. The abundance of food and drinks underscored the union’s commitment to ensuring everyone felt at home.
As attendees dispersed, the spirit of camaraderie and pride in their Igbide identity remained palpable, setting the tone for a stronger, united front in the coming year.
The Igbide Union Asaba Branch wishes all its members a prosperous New Year ahead.
