The Orodje Of Okpe and Chancellor of Nigeria Army University, Biu, HRM Maj Gen Felix Mujakperuo Rtd, CFR, Orhue 1, has revealed that his military career was majorly responsible for his installation as the pioneer Chancellor of the institution in Borno state.
The traditional ruler made this known in an interview with with Journalists in palace at Orerokpe, Delta State.
“Today, my heart overflows with profound gratitude to God who has made it possible for me to be in this gathering and to play in it, the historic role of the first Chancellor of this promising university.
“Biu community has now has a new status of being a University community, a place where progressive ideas for the growth of Nigeria and the world at large are incubated.
According to the Orodje of Okpe, “My appointment as the Pioneer Chancellor of this great university is an acknowledgement of my professional military career, the royal family of Okpe, the good people of the Okpe Kingdom in Delta State, and indeed the Government and the people of Delta State.
“I therefore accept this honour in the belief that I will contribute my own quota to the growth of the Institution from the wealth of my experience in military affairs and as the former Chancellor of Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State.
“Biu brings to mind for those of us who were in the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, in the mid-sixties and early seventies old memories of one of our drill instructors in the person of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Bulama Biu who introduced us, raw civilians, to military discipline and regimentation in the drill square.
“The siting of the university in Biu will definitely bring development to this community and congratulate the people of Biu for this achievement. And by this I mean, rather than rely on white collar jobs, you should be employers of labour
“I must also commend the crucial roles played by the two former Ministers of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Muhammed Dan Ali and Major General Bashir Salihu Magashi who were my Course Mate at the Nigerian Defence Academy and also at NIPSS, Kuru for the remarkable support and encouragement in ensuring the existence of the Nigerian Army University.
“The former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Turkur Buratai, CFR, who muted the idea of the Army University and ensured that the Institution which is the first of its kind in the West African Sub-region came into existence.”The revered Monarch reveals.
