The son of a serving Police Officer, Inspector Ogbantu attached to Warri Area Command, has reportedly stabbed a boy, simply identified as Onyebuchi Ernest Emeka to death in Warri, Delta State.
It was gathered that the suspect, Destiny Ogbantu fled the scene of incident.
The incident occurred at the Police Barracks near “A” Division and the Warri Area Command on Friday the 22nd of September at about 6pm.
It could not be ascertained why the suspect stabbed the victim to death as at the time of this report.
A source said, the deceased came to the Police Barracks when the suspect saw him.
“He was confronted by the suspect and a serious argument ensued which led to a fight between the both of them.
“The suspect ran upstairs in the block “D” apartment, picked a knife and dagger, chased the deceased who ran for his dear life until he fell and he(suspect) stabbed him countless times without mercy.
“The deceased was rushed to Lily hospital where he died as as a result of the bodily injuries he sustained from the stab.
At the time of this report, the said Inspector has been arrested by the Police by the order of the Area Commander and he is cooling of his heels in their cell.
When contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said, “It’s confirmed.”
The matter came to the fore when members of the Nigeria Civil Right Council in Delta State in collaboration with other Civil Right Organizations came into the matter as they demanded that the police should allow justice prevail in the matter.
Ejumudo Tosan Bishop who spoke on behalf of the Nigerian Right Council appreciated the police for doing a good job but said the Police should release the said Inspector as well as do more by going after the fleeing suspect with all their Arsenals and apprehend him so that he faces the law saying “They should not do arrest by proxy. It’s not the father that committed the offence. They should release him and go after the boy. Let him come and face the law.”
He expressed feats that what the police want to do is try to keep the inspector in custody and after sometime, release him and end the matter there. He warned,”that should not happen” pointing out that the father of the deceased who is blind is calling for justice for his son.
