The Divisional Police Officer attached to Agbarho police division, under the Ughelli Area Command, has been killed in a rescue operation by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in an ambush, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that the DPO who resumed in Agbarho division few days ago, died on the spot after he was shot on the stomach alongside with the Divisional Police Officer of Orerokpe division, CSP Paul Oboware and other officers currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
According to sources, “The DPO, CSP Hassan Nasir Jega got a distress call at about 10:40 pm on Sunday, that a Hilux snatched in Sapele was tracked to Agbarho and he was called by his colleague from Orerokpe division for back up.
The DPO Agbarho volunteered to accompanied his team and colleague in chasing the hoodlums when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“They ran into the hoodlums at Unity School junction Agbarho where they encounter them and the Agbarho DPO was shot in his stomach and he died in the spot while the his colleague DPO from Orerokpe, CSP Paul Oboware was shot on the neck and was rushed to unknown hospital for treatment.
Another source disclosed that, “The newly posted Agbarho Division DPO lead a team of his to the said location, which is under the railway.
“Upon the joint inter-divisional teams arrived, less than ten minutes unknown to them that the hoodlums had pinned down on top of the rial way flyover.
“The remains of the deceased DPO has been deposited in the morgue while tactical teams have been deployed to tack the suspected hoodlums”
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright who confirmed the incident said, “They ran into an ambushed during an operation,though no arrest has been made but police are on the trail of the suspects “
