A group, Udu Restoration for Change has stated that the primary purpose of the creation of Udu Local Government Council has been defeated as it can no longer provide the basic social amenities such as portable drinking water, primary healthcare service delivery, small and local accessible roads, development of agriculture and non-mineral resources, conducive learning environment with equipped laboratories, libraries and others under the present administration.
In a statement signed by its coordinator, Comrade Elvis Akatakpo explained that the local government council is the most grassrooted system of government that connects the ordinary citizens to government and those governing them at the local level.
He added that it brings governance and dividends of democracy closer to the doorsteps of her downtrodden but since inception of the current administration, the primary purpose of having the third tier of government has been erroneously eroded and the wheel of governance in Udu abruptly put on hold against the yearnings of her teaming populist and taxpayers residing and doing business in Udu council.
According to the statement: “many major street roads connecting the ever busy and popular Udu road from Udu Market down to the rejuvenated express junction and the wood market close to Ovwian Secondary School are in deep sorry state and visually not passable during rainy season, and have become death traps and breeding ground for hoodlums and criminals.
“There is no single tangible project in Udu council be it construction of small street roads, building of school classrooms or installation of street lights at flash points areas that can be ascribed to the present administration of the council as its pet project either completed or still ongoing in midst of over N1.6 billion that was accrued to Udu local government council in the last one calendar year from the federal government excluding IGRs.
“To every sane person who cares to know, this is totally unacceptable and aberration to what a third tier government ought to be yet no body is talking about it nor criticizing the administration’s lack of service delivery because a lot of these persons be it leaders or what have you had already sold their conscience and the future of their unborn children for a pot of porridge hence their silence”.
The group stated that as stakeholders, they own it a duty to constantly demand for a better and productive Udu local government area from those at the helms of affairs at the council level.
The statement posited that the current administration has failed the good people of Udu therefore should be shown the exit door when the time comes, “Udu deserves a better share of her patrimony than this zero level and rubber-stamped administration”.
