Four Suspected Internet Fraudsters Arrested For Destroying Police Vehicle In Ughelli

Four persons suspected to be internet fraudsters by the Nigeria Police officers attached to Ughelli Area command over an attempt to burn down an operational vehicle of the police on Monday night in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State
The incident which led to rising tension in the Otovwodo axis of Ughelli town witnessed some rampaging youths setting bonfires in the area in protest while attempting to set ablaze a police bulletproof Hilux van.
Sources at the scene of the incident said tension was heightened when the police team accosted some boys whom were in a car on allegations of them being internet fraudsters.
A commercial motorcycle operator who identified himself as Charles Umukoro, said the policemen had demanded for the keys of the car, and the boys refused leading to the police shooting of the tyre of the car.
According to him “This led to an uprising in the area with other youths setting up bonfires and shooting at the police while attempting to burn a police Hilux van that was sent to restore calm to the area.”
Though efforts to speak with the State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowakpoyeya were fruitless, a security source at the Ughelli Police Area Command who confirmed the incident said, “A police van was damaged during the incident.
The security source disclosed that that, “The hoodlums had used a battle axe and other dangerous items to smash the windscreen of a bulletproof police Hilux van and four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.”
