Former UPU PG, Taiga Presents Live Cow, Rice To Okuama IDP Camp

 

IMMEDIATE past president general of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, worldwide, Olorogun Dr. Moses Oghenerume Taiga, JP, CON, has presented food items to the internally Displaced Persons current at Ewu-Urhobo community in Ughelli North local Government Area of Delta State.

Items donated by Olorogun Moses Taiga who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Olorogun Kenneth Young are, live Cow and bags of rice.

Speaking during the presentation, he said, “First, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, for his decisive and compassionate leadership in establishing this humanitarian camp here in Ewu Town.

“In the darkest hours, when the people of Okuama were in desperate need of refuge, your swift action provided them with a haven, restoring hope amidst their despair.

“We are also encouraged by the news that the state government has begun the rebuilding of Okuama, starting with the construction of a health centre and a classroom block.

“Indeed, our people are deeply rooted in their ancestral lands, not in camps. It is my fervent hope, bolstered by the assured and practical commitment of the governor that our Okuama brethren will soon return to their homes, where they belong.

“To the Urhobo Progress Union under the leadership of President-General, Okakuro (Barr. ) Ese Gam Owe, I thank you for being a steadfast voice for the Okuama people. Your support and commitment to the well-being of the Okuama community in her challenging time is invaluable and appreciated.

“I also want to acknowledge the Ukoko R’Ivie R’Urhobo, the Urhobo Council of Traditional Rulers, Your Majesties, your unwavering solidarity with the people of Okuama is a powerful testament to our unity as Urhobos.

“Your continued support underscores the truth that when one of us is in pain, we all feel it and we thank you all for standing by our people during this challenging time.

Let me also take this opportunity to extend profound thanks to the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo, Urhukpe 1, and the Otor-Ewu Community.

“Your generosity in not only hosting but also safeguarding our Okuama people during their temporary stay here is an act of kindness that we will not forget.

“I also extend our sincere thanks to all the Urhobo personality groups, associations, and other Nigerians who have selflessly donated relief materials.

“Your generosity has provided much-needed comfort to those in need. However, the road to recovery is still long, and we urge everyone to continue giving and supporting until our people can return home and rebuild their lives.

To the resilient people of Okuama, your strength and courage in the face of such adversity are truly inspiring. You have endured so much, but please know that you are not alone. We stand with you, and we will continue to support you until you can return to your ancestral homeland.

“I must also extend a special thank you to the Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons Management Committee, led so capably by Mr. Abraham Ogbodo, former Editor of The Guardian newspaper, and the officials of this camp. The efforts made towards the well-being of the displaced are greatly appreciated. Your work reflects the highest ideals of patriotism and compassion.

“As we look ahead, let us all hold onto hope that the people of Okuama will soon return to their ancestral homes, rebuild their community, and restore their lives to normalcy.”

The items were received by the former editor of the Guardian Newspaper, Mr Abraham Ogbodo who is the chairman of Ewu-Okuama Internally Displaced Persons Management Committee

While receiving the items, Ogbodo said, We can only thank those who are led by the spirit of God to come to our aid and the man who has done this is like a father to the entire Urhobo nation.

“When I spoke to him, he asked me to fix a date and today, he has come with five 50 kg bags of rice and a live cow. And if you don’t know hunger is what is causing protest in the country but he brought all these to assist us here.

“We are grateful because this is just the latest addition to the latest series of assistance that we have received from good spirited Urhobo sons and daughters.”he said.
