The inauguration of the Delta State Human Rights Protection Committee by the state governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in 2021 to compensate #Endsars victims brought relief to Deltans.
But since her inauguration, the panel constituted has submitted it’s report and recommendations to the government, but till date, the recommendations has turned deaf ears.
The failures of the Delta State Government has turned sour as the a member of the committee, activist Joe Israel has threatened to resigned his appointment if the state government fails to compensate victims of police brutality that led the the #Endsars protest across the country.
Joe Israel in his open letter to the state governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, vowed to resign his membership of the committee.
His letter, “Compensate #EndSARS Victims as Recommended By Judicial Panel or I resign my Membership from the Delta State Human Rights Protection Committee.
“I write to draw the attention of His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa that the compensations to the #EndSARS victims as recommended by the judicial Panel of Inquiry into Police Brutality and Extra Judicial killings have not been paid. This has continued to give me sleepless nights since I am the one nominated to represent the Civil Society Organizations in the Human Rights Protection Committee.
“We recalled the words of His Excellency during the inauguration of the Committee on 20th of October, 2021, where he promised to start up the payment for compensating the victims of Police Brutality as recommended by the Judicial Panel of Inquiry. However, this promise has not yet find fulfillments at this material time.
“I wish to state unambiguously and unequivocally that once compensations is not kick started or paid before the end of April, I will have no other option than to resign my membership from the Delta State Human Rights Protection Committee as we shall continue to speak for the masses and their consistent plights.”
