Empowering Mothers, WOMEN, Take Healthcare Awareness To Bayelsa Community

As part of efforts aimed at improving the health and social welfare of women, the Women Organized for Mentorship and Advocacy Network, WOMEN, in partnership with the Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy Foundation, ENWAF and others partners, held an outreach in Igbogene Community.

 

The event brought together various stakeholders including the representatives of the Primary Health Care Board, Kiosate Boy Child Foundation, Health and Care for the Vulnerable Initiative, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP and SERIC to address various health issues, featuring health talks on yellow fever, cholera HIV/ AIDS, tuberculosis, menstrual hygiene, exclusive breastfeeding, food and nutrition immunization, Gender Based Violence and Human trafficking.

 

Executive Director, WOMAN, Lady Eunice Nnachi in her opening remark noted that the essence of the outreach was to foster a sense of community empowerment and collaboration among various stakeholders.

 

Nnachi pointed out that by addressing pressing health and social issues, the initiative marks a crucial step towards improving the overall well-being of the women in the community.

 

She expressed appreciation to the woman leader of the community as well as all the women and young girls who attended the event.

 

Nutrition specialist from the State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Rose Okpara who enlightened the women on exclusive breastfeeding noted that the health and economic benefits are numerous to the women, children and the entire society as children who are well breastfed are strong and healthy.

 

Chief Executive Officer of Kiosate Boy Child Foundation, Lady Stella Doumu who highlighted the importance of hand hygiene urged women to engage in regular hand washing in their homes.

 

Also speaking, a representative of NAPTIP who raised awareness on human trafficking advised women on the dangers posed by traffickers who may disguise their intentions as opportunities for better living conditions abroad

 

On her part, representative of ENWAF, Mrs Elizabeth Vincent who educated women on menstrual hygiene stressed the importance of self care during menstruation to prevent infections and body odor.

 

Woman Leader, Igbogene Community, Chief Mrs Susan Osain expressed appreciation to WOMAN and all the partners for their commitment to the welfare of Igbogene women.

 

She prayed God for continuos blessings upon all members of WOMAN and the strength for the organization to be more involved in humanitarian services.

 

She equally urged the government and relevant authorities to support WOMAN, and other NGOs in other to do their community engagements effectively.

 

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of households items and sanitary products to the young girls and women present at the event.
