DTHA: Ebegba Condemns Omonade Suspension, Chides Leadership, Urges Rescind

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Delta State and immediate past Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency NBMA Olorogun Dr. Rufus Eseoghene Ebegba KSJI, has condemned the suspension of Member Representing Ughelli North Constituency 1 at the Delta State House of Assembly, Honorable Matthew Onojighofia Omonade Esq by the leadership of the House.

According to the leadership of the House, Hon Matthew’s suspension is due to his alleged abuse of privileges and the publication of false/perverted proceedings of the House.

In his reaction, the former NBMA DG chided the leadership of the House for making its decision without proper investigation and going ahead to pronounce a suspension.

He said “The news of the suspension of the Member Representing Ughelli North Constituency 1 Hon Matthew Onojighofia Omonade Esq, came as a shock and ultimately is unacceptable to every democracy-loving individual, especially the people of Ughelli North Constituency 1, and members of the APC in Delta State.

“Hon Omonade, since his inauguration as a Member of the House Of Assembly, has been the most sound, articulate and passionate representative in this dispensation, contributing to the discourse of the House, and offering his people quality representation, as promised during the elections.

“Individuals who have attended plenary sessions of the House since the commencement of this Assembly, maintain that Hon Matthew Omonade has remained true and sincere to his responsibilities, not only to Ughelli North Constituency 1 but also to Deltans across the state, irrespective of tribe and ethnicity”.

Speaking further, Dr. Ebegba chided the leadership of the House for choosing to suspend the member, even while investigations were yet to be carried out to properly ascertain the extent of his culpability in the alleged offence.

He said, “It is unacceptable to suspend a member who was duly elected by his people, as this serves to deny his constituents of their right to quality representation.

“Moreover, the reality of Hon Matthew Omonade’s suspension questions the capacity of the House led by Hon Emomotimi Guwor, to handle the affairs of the Assembly without favouritism or political vindictiveness, which seems to be the case with the suspension of Hon Omonade, whose bill was represented by another word for word to the House. On this, the leadership of the house is indebted to correcting that wrong and anomaly.

“Therefore, I join other leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, as well as lovers of democracy and the rule of law, in condemning the suspension pronounced on the Member Representing Ughelli North Constituency 1, Hon Matthew Onojighofia Omonade, calling on the House to rescind its decision in the interest of development and progress of the state.

“Hon Omonade has maintained a sterling performance, and his suspension will deny the House of the quality debates and contributions, which have added flair and inspired more interest among Deltans, in the business of legislation and representation.

“The Delta State House of Assembly led by Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor must refuse to be used as an attack dog or to intimidate members of the opposition, otherwise, it risks mass action from APC members and Constituents of Ughelli North Constituency 1, who are ready to register their displeasure at the House of Assembly.

In conclusion, Dr Ebegba urged Hon Matthew Omonade to remain resolute and stand strong on his convictions, as he is already making his impact felt, and he remains loved by his people.

” As I conclude, I urge Hon Omonade to remain resolute and true to his convictions as a Representative of his people, the people are behind him day and night.” he added.
