The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and senator representing Delta Central, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has commissioned 20 lock-up stores market built by Oviri-Ogor community executive in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
Omo-Agege who also lay foundation of another 20 Lock-up stores commended the executive of Oviri-Ogor community for embarking on the self help projects that has gulped millions of naira.
According to the Deputy Senate President, “This commissioning of the 20 lock up stores and foundation laying in Oviri-Ogor market s very special to me because in all the projects that I have influenced to my people, I have never commission any.
“So when I was called to come over and commission Oviri-Ogor market that was built by the current executive of Olorogun Monday Otobrise, it gladden my heart and I vow not to disappoint the community.
“The Delta state and local government has failed the people of this community
and If the government cannot encourage, them, I will encourage and support them.
“This is a very special project because I deally this would have been a project of the state government through the local government but you tasked yourselves and made it happen and I was glad when I was called to commission it and lay and foundation”.
Earlier in his address, Chairman of the community, Olorogun Monday Otobrise appeal for the completion of the abandoned over 3km Oviri-Ogor/Edjekota road since 2012.
He said, Oviri-Ogor community is one of the oil and gas producing community located within the Osioka Oil Catchment area and in 2011, with great joy the received the news of the award of a road project linking Oviri-Ogor- communities in Ogor kingdom by NDDC considering the hardship experienced by these people to transport their farm produce to the cities.
“But our joy was cut short when after partially constructing the drainages and applying stone base on the road before the contractor abandoned the project. And it is on this background we are appealing to the state and federal government to come to our aid and see to the completion of the road project.
Also on his part, a leader in the community, Olorogun Hon. Kpuwhara Anthony said, The Oviri-Ogor executive led by Olorogun Monday Otobrise took it upon themselves to build a market for themselves since the previous and present government could not do it for us and the result is the commissioning today.
Kpuwhara held that government cannot do it alone hence this self help project and the commissioning is what we are witnessing today.
“The community is one of the most peaceful one in Ughelli North and we are calling on investors to come and invest here”. Kpuwhara stated.
