The controversy surrounding the demise of Davido‘s friend, Tagbo Umeike, who reportedly passed on shortly after partying with Davido recently, was the most discussed subject on social media in the past week.
With allegations from both the police and girlfriend of the deceased, the singer’s reputation was heavily threatened – thankfully a CCTV footage from the party venue was released, investigations were conducted and Davido was eventually vindicated.
Now, 2Baba, who is adorned as a godfather to many young Nigerian musicians, stopped by the NET office recently, and amongst many other topics, spoke on the controversies that’s clouded Davido’s name recently.
2Baba encouraged the pop star to stay true to himself and tread carefully, saying:
‘When things like this happen, I always say it is an unfortunate circumstance. Nobody plans for stuff like that. Some times it makes you want to; should I change from being a jolly good fella? should I not have friends anymore? There are so many things that come to your head when stuff like that happens. But the only thing is; keep your head straight, be grateful to friends and the creator. Then henceforth, be careful.’
For Davido, he simply wanted to have a time out with his friend, unknown to him that those exciting moments were going to be followed by travail.
Since being vindicated, Davido has publicly thanked everyone who stood by him and declared that he forgives everyone who falsely accused him.
Davido is now back on the road to continue with the African leg of his 30 Billion tour.
