The Managing Director/CEO of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, on 20th of January 2021, commissioned two (2) blocks consisting of six classrooms, a Library, Headmaster/ Headmistress’ office with adjoining toilets and additional four (4) toilets for staff and pupils of Emonu-Orogun, in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Addressing the people, Bashorun Ogieh promised to include the provision of a 500 KVA transformer and equipping of the Library built, in the Commission’s next budget. He then enjoined the people of the community to ensure that they secured the projects provided by the Commission.
The President-General of Emonu Development Union ( EDU), Hon. Chief Henry O Itedjere, earlier in his welcome address, had thanked the Managing Director/CEO of DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, the Executive Directors and Member Representing Ughelli North, Ethiope East and Urhobos in Patani Local Government Area, Olorogun Kent Okiemute, for bringing the dividends of Democracy to their Community. He noted that through the renovation of the block of six classrooms, teaching and learning process would be enhanced. He however concluded by requesting for a well furnished office accommodation for the Headmaster/Headmistress and a 500KVA transformer for the benefit of school and environs.
The Executive Director Projects, on the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon. Barr. Daniel Mayuku while commending the contractor for doing a wonderful job in such a record time, said, it was a total reconstruction job which was very comprehensive.
He then appreciated the DESOPADEC helmsman whom he said, felt it was not wise to commission this August project without chairs and therefore approved the provision of 150 chairs/desks for the school. This, he said, was an addition to the original scope.
The Board Member representing Ughelli North, Ethiope East and Urhobos in Patani Local Government Area, Okakuro Kent Okiemute, while giving his vote of thanks, commended Bashorun Ogieh and the Executive Directors for their support in the project execution.
The Head Teacher of Emonu Primary School, Mrs Emuedo Regina; the treasurer of Emonu Development Union, Hon Efetobor Innocent and another member of the community, Chief Austin Oghenesiowho were all elated, thanking the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and DESOPADEC Board for coming to the rescue of the community, especially the pupils of the school.
Highpoint of the brief ceremony was the cutting of tape, the unveiling of the infrastructural development plaque and the declaration by the Managing Director, Bashorun Ogieh, that the school was officially opened for use, by the community.
Also present at the ceremony were the Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Com. Amb. Shedrack Agediga; CSO, Chief Lawrence Eduje; Director of Housing, QS William Oyimi; Head of Media and Public Affairs, Mrs Chinenye Ezonfade and a host of others.
