Aside oil boom, the next pot of income generation in Delta state is through internally generated revenue handled by the state revenue board but it is sad to see that the Revenue House situated along Ughelli/Asaba road is in shamble.
The Revenue House was built during Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan administration under Joel-Onowakpo Thomas as chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR, and it is believed that since it was constructed, no major renovation has taken place.
A critical look at the Ughelli North Revenue House, that housed the FRSC drivers licence unit and partly the Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, offices, it is sad to note that no power generating set.
There are no either standing, table or ceiling fans in any of the offices and the doors and environment looks very unkempt.
One may go home and be discovered to have contacted communicable and air borne diseases from the offices as there are no ventilation.
Pictures of the inner building obtained, depict the state of the second source of wealth to the state.
A drivers license applicant who was at the office recently expressed displeasure over the inability of the Board Chairman salvage the situation.
According to the applicant who spoke on anonymous condition appealed to the state governor, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa to embark on the the rehabilitation and furnishing of the office to taste.
The Ughelli North office is among the 24 others in the 25 local government areas of the state. They have another Ughelli office at Emosivwe street that is nothing to write home about.
The current Acting Chairman of the Board, Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe has remain redundant despite the huge amount of money that enter the state treasury through these offices.
“Delta state cannot be making money from these offices and leave them unkempt. There are no doors and other interiors are eyesore to behold.”
Efforts to speak with the acting chairman of the board, Mr Kelly Oghenekevwe was not successful as calls to his mobile line, 080336***71 were not answered nor returned as at the time of this report.
