As part of its activities reduce the high level of crime, kidnapping, the Nigeria Police tactical teams deployed from Force Headquarters, Abuja and Asaba to Ughelli and its environs to boost its divisions have arrested scores of persons in Ughelli North local government area area of Delta state.
The mass arrest is coming after the recent kidnap and killing of a Police Officer, Mr Ifeanyi and his corpse was found in Evwreni, a petty trader at Ughelli two Reverend Fathers in Agbarha-Otor.
Some of the areas raided by the police include, a club house where a birthday party was being held in Evwreni community, Hotels, Brothels and drinking joints and other black spot in Ughelli.
It was gathered that a total of 148 persons , 94 Females, 59 males were arrested at different locations and time in the raid by the police in Ughelli north.
Security sources disclosed that some hotels, and Club Houses name withheld along the East/West road in Ughelli were shutdown on Thursday and Friday last week in the process and some owners were arrested.
Recalled that the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright had in a statement said,”Following reports of kidnapping and armed robbery operations in Ughelli, Warri and environs, the Deputy Commissioner of Police operations, DCP Johnson Adenola mandated all divisional police officers in the Command to gather intelligence and ensure that this ugly trend is nipped in the bud.
Reacting to the arrest, a facebook user, Raymond Ugbeh said, “I released 11 boys yesterday with 600k.It was terrible”
Also one Ughere Blessed, as Human Right Activist under his lead post on Facebook said, “Today I was called for someone who was caught with Igbo I told him I no fit go because na crime be that .. if na violation of human right I go go ..
“If you must smoke Igbo or weed please let it be your private no body will arrest you but bringing it to the public we will not come out to help you”
Kelvin Olemaro Owhologbo Apah-Itesah said, “They should carry out their duties deligently. Go for criminals and not Harassing ppl.
“Ughelli own too much, in spite of the hash method of justice announced by the King…e no border them.”
In another statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Edafe Bright, Delta State Police Command declares war on kidnappers terrorizing Warri,Ughelli and environs said,
On 3/5/2023, the Deputy Commissioner of police operations DCP Johnson Adenola, had a brainstorming meeting with key officers in the Command where strategies were mapped out to nip the activities of kidnappers in the bud.
Tactical commanders were directed to proceed to Ughelli and Warri alongside their men to reinforce the divisions.
This effort paid off when the DPO ‘B’ Division Warri, SP Bolarinwa Alabi on 4/5/2023 at about 0013hours, received a distress call that some armed robbers snatched a black lexus cars along warri-sapele road and have been robbing innocent citizens using the said car. The DPO swiftly mobilized and led a striking force team of the Division, trailed the hoodlums, and caught up with them.
The hoodlums upon sighting the police exchanged firing with team. The hoodlums, numbering about four, escaped into the bush while firing at the police but one of them was hit and fatally wounded. The injured suspect gave up the ghost while receiving treatment. One locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun with two live cartridges, one suspected stolen vehicle with reg. no PYN 595 PW were recovered.
In another development, on 1/5/2023, at about 2200 hours, as a proactive measure, the DPO Ughelli division led police operatives to patrol along Ughelli/Asaba road, during which, they intercepted one Odogun Ifeanyi ‘m’ 36yrs and one other suspect.
“When search was conducted on them, one locally made single barrel gun with four live cartridges, one jack knife were recovered. On the same date, the DPO and his men also arrested one Ediri Omote ‘m’ age 45 years, and two others, and one locally made single barrel gun with nine expended cartridges were recovered from them.
“The Police rely heavily on information from the public, and it is expected that any suspicious persons or movements will be promptly reported to the police.”
