COMMUNITY Development Advocacy Foundation, CODAF, a non-governmental organization has commended the initiative of ‘Operation Keep Ughelli North Clean’ by the executive chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo.
CODAF, in a commendation statement, appealed to the council chairman to extend the exercise to streets and other communities around the local government.
According to the statement signed by CODAF Executive Director, Benin Richard, “We at CODAF wholeheartedly commend the administration of Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, for embarking on a cleanup exercise to rid Ughelli markets of roadside traders and give the area a new face lift.
“As we emphasized during our EnviroGyst program, the practice of traders selling their wares and goods on the main road poses significant hazards to both the traders and the general public.
“These hazards include environmental pollution, health risks, and safety concerns.
“The chairman’s directive for traders to occupy the empty stores in the market is a step in the right direction. This initiative will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of Ughelli North but also promote a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for all.
“We however recommend that the local government chairman should also extend the ‘Operation Keep Ughelli North Clean’ initiative to the streets and inner communities, not just the major roads.
“This will ensure that the entire city benefits from the cleanup exercise and that a culture of cleanliness and environmental sustainability is promoted throughout Ughelli North.
“We urge the chairman to continue his efforts in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in Ughelli North just as we also call on the traders and residents to cooperate with the local government in its bid to keep Ughelli North clean.
“We commend Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo for his commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.” It reads.
