BEFORE YOU CHEER TINUBU ON REDUCING GOVERNANCE COST

By Zik Gbemre

Is President Bola Tinubu honestly reducing cost of governance? What is he going to do with 20 persons on foreign trips? What are the roles of the Nigerian Ambassadors and Diplomats?

Are his frequent foreign trips necessary? No. The Ambassadors could represent the President in these foreign trips to deliver speech if necessary.

Tinubu says he is reducing costs after buying a N150B new aircraft. What pretense? Can’t he travel on commercial aeroplanes? Tinubu appoints people every month to duplicate official duties already being handled by existing appointees, some for offices whose roles are not clearly defined.

Tinubu duplicated functions of many ministries with creation of new ministries few days ago. That is aside the compassionate appointment of deputy ministers (ministers of state). I don’t think President Tinubu has genuine plans to move the country forward.

What will a minister be moving with three cars within Nigerian in his/her entourage within the country? At least two cars are enough. One pick up to carry his security details and a car will be enough.

Too many wastages in Tinubu’s APC led administration. Even the NNPCL offices in Abuja and Lagos are economic waste since they have no functions in Abuja and Lagos.

The business of oil and gas is mainly in Warri, Port-Harcourt in the South South. Abuja and Lagos offices of NNPCL and its subsidiaries are sheer wastage.

In US, offices of oil & gas companies are majorly located in Houston, Texas and not in Washington DC and New York City.

In Canada the offices of oil & gas companies are strategically in Calgary and not in Ottawa and Toronto. These are the places oil & gas are being derived in such nations so they are the centers for both operations and administration.

I have repeatedly asked NNPCL, NEPL to hands off operations of oil & gas companies to the private investors. It is not the business of government to operate oil & gas companies in this 21st century, especially in a corrupt country as Nigeria.

For decades, the nation’s four Public Refineries have been willfully grounded by NNPCL & government looting the nation blind from fuel imports.

For these many years, the refineries remain saturated with employees, collecting full salaries, allowances and the perks of office including enjoying overseas capacity building for practically doing no work.

I ask Tinubu and Kyari, if NNPCL were their private investment, will they be paying thousands of redundant staff for dead refineries?

Tinubu doesn’t mean well if he pretends to cut down cost of governance with his frequent appointment of idle politicians in offices that don’t have clear functions.

He doesn’t mean well when he spends more and huge chunk of the commonwealth on globetrotting and staying more abroad while the nation he governs is comatose.
