A suspected Cable vandal arrested by locals at Otogor community, has died from suspected severe beating and injuries sustained at Central Hospital Ughelli, while receiving treatment in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased, Micheal, 29, from Akwa Ibom state, was arrested while allegedly vandalizing Otogor community transformer at about 9:30pm on Tuesday.
According to Otogor community president general, Mr.Edirin Tobi Emmanuel, “The boy later died at the general hospital after it was discovered that he was shocked by electric current.
He said, “People came from Ovwodokpokpor, Iwhrovie lawyers with petitions that the boy has vandalized over 25 transformers.
“The police are working on how to arrest the number of persons that were mentioned. One of the persons that was mentioned offered to pay three million naira to secure the release the suspect.
Also speaking,the Business Manager Engr Olorunfemi Adebayo said, I received an emergency call from the President general of the community that some boys came to their community overnight to vandalize their cable.
Some of them escaped but one of them was apprehended and that was why I came .This issue has become a recurring decimal in Ughelli and its environs but nemesis catch up with this one today.
“These cables are expensive that run into millions of naira but because they know how much they cost, they will put the community into total darkness but I am glad with the bravery of the President general and they should keep it up.”
