DEPUTY President of the Senate and the senator representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege has urged APC faithful in Delta state to remain hopeful over the governorship tribunal sitting in Asaba, saying, the party will defeat the People’s Democratic Party to reclaim the governorship mandate in 180days.
Addressing party faithful, and mammoth crowd of Deltans who gathered to give him a rousing welcome at his country home in Orhomurho-Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state during his home coming ceremony after being elected as the Deputy President of the Senate.
According to senator Agege, “By the grace of God within the next 180 days, chief Great Ogboru will be sworn in as governor of Delta state.” He also urged chairmen of Delta South and North APC to deliver their senators in the next general elections.
“The elections were very tough but at all times I had confidence in our people that give me services I have rendered to the party during my first sojourn in the senate I had no doubt whatsoever that the Urhobo people would stand solidly behind me and you people came through and I thank you all.”
Speaking on his emergence as Deputy President of the Senate, he said “you all know how I got this position; it is the biggest position that has come to the entire South-South since 1999. All of this is possible because of our president. The odds were enormous but our president put his foot down.
“All of the governors of APC extraction acting on the instruction of the president also put their foot down and put everything at their disposal to see to it that I am elected. Also 67 of my colleagues decided that they will tow the path of president Buhari and the governors. They decided that I can add value of governance to the 9th senate and casted their vote for me.
“Today I assure president Buhari that “in my position and capacity as the Deputy President of the Senate, working with the president of the senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, the least we owe the president is to create an enabling environment so that the content of that next level agenda that all of us campaigned on will be brought to reality.
“The days where they turned the senate sittings to a burial ground for anything Muhammadu Buhari is over now and those days where he was being threatened with removal, impeachment and wishing him dead are over now because he has Ahmed Lawan, as senator president and your son as Deputy President of the Senate. Now president Muhammadu Buhari sleeps with two eyes closed.
“But you people made it possible because if you did not vote for me as a senator first, there is no chance that he would have had me to support for Deputy President of the Senate. I told you people that the president loves the Urhobo nation and that if we vote for him, we will benefit. The president has shown his love by giving us a minister in the person of Festus Keyamo SAN.
According to Agege, “I promise that I will not let you down. All of the promises I made during campaigns; I remember. It can only get better just trust me, just support me. You have done your part all that we ask of you now is prayer.
“Continue to support and pray for the president, APC governors and I. I thank and pray for all Deltans irrespective of their political affiliations but not for the PDP governors because we plan to remove them and take over”.
