Angry Mob Sets Suspected Cultist Ablaze In Ughelli

Barely three days after a suspected cultist was set ablaze in Ekuigbo community, Ughelli North Local government area of Delta State, angry mob has yet again burnt another suspected notorious cultist to death in the same community.
The suspect whose name could not be identified as at the time of the report but popularly known as Pastor was alleged to be the leader of the hit team of one of the rival cult group and has been responsible for several killings and armed robberies in Ughelli and environs.
According to an eye witness, the dreaded cultist who has been on the wanted list of both the police, military and local vigilante was killed after a failed attempt to gun down the ‘Operation’ of Ekuigbo community vigilante in an alleged retaliatory attack.
The source who spoke to newmen on anonymous conditionsaid, “they were about three of them that came with a motorcycle looking for the operation, who I don’t want to mention his name for security reasons.
It would be recalled that last Sunday, a suspected cultist was set ablaze by mobs after he was caught with a locally cut to size gun.
The said Pastor had allegedly declared war against the community vigilante after a member of his cult groups,(Aro-Bagga) was set ablaze. A security source revealed.
“When they came to the town, they did not find them (vigilante Operation) because they had went on patrol. So they decided to trace them to where they are. While they went, they met on the way. Immediately, Pastor shot three times at the operation but the bullet did not penetrate. At this point they entered their bike and decided to run away.
“But they were chased by both the vigilante and members of the community who has been alerted by the gun shots. In the process, one of the vehicle chasing them knocked down the bike and they fell down.
“At this point they started running on foot, pastor was caught in the process and before you know it, he was set ablaze along with the bike they came with by the mob.”
Efforts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome was not successful but a senior security officer attached to the Ughelli Area Command confirmed the incident.
