The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF),Anyim Pius Anyim, over allegation of financial malfeasance while he was SGF during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
It was learnt from top EFCC sources that Anyim was being interrogated over an alleged N520 million he received from a former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.
He was also said to have been questioned on the utilization of the Ecological Funds worth over N13 billion while he was SGF between 2011 and 2015.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of Anyim and noted that he was still in custody being grilled by investigators at the time of filing this reportyesterday evening.
EFCC sources also told Daily Trust that among other reasons Anyim was being quizzed to explain why he allegedly collected N520 million from Dasuki ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
It was also said that Anyim had refused to honour previous EFCC invitations before a warrant of arrest was obtained and a search was carried out at his residence before his arrest was effected.
The EFCC is said to be investigating Anyim over allegations borderingon abuse of office, misappropriation of public funds, money laundering, false assets declaration and awarding contracts from the ecological fund to proxies and companies he had interest in.
