A yet to be identified female parent led others to beat up a female teacher for allegedly disciplining her daughter over a case of two fighting between two students of Uduere secondary school, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that the timely intervention of the Ughelli North NUT chairman, Comr. Austin Ovuevuraye and Ughelli North Local Government Council chairman Olorogun Jaro Egbo who sent rescue team to the school to calm the situation.
Sources who spoke on anonymous condition said, “Two students had a fight and a female Chemistry teacher popularly called *Aunty Ruth’, disciplined either of them, with six strokes of cane on Thursday.
“After school closing, the female student went to have a fight her fellow on their way home.
“One of the students whose Identity could not be ascertained went home to invite her mother for alleged retaliation on Friday.
“The woman on Friday morning stormed the school before the arrival of students and teachers and immediately Aunty Ruth drove in the premises, she was attacked while alighting from her vehicle.
“As the fight was ongoing, reinforcement came from the community and join hands in beating the Chemistry teacher and it was at that point, the other teachers present rescued their colleague from the fight.
“It was the council chairman and NUT chairman that calm the situation, it would have been a different ballgame in the school. The source disclosed.
Another source alleged that after the fight, the teachers went to meet with the Ughelli North council chairman to express their grievances to him.
“The source alleged that in February 2024, a student from the school arrested the school principal and other teacher for allegedly disciplining him/her and at the end of the issue, the principal apologized to the student in question.This is the level of school of nowadays, it has gone beyond what we see now.”
Efforts to speak with the Ughelli North NUT Chairman, Comr. Austin Ovuevuraye was not successful as calls to his mobile line were not answered nor returned as at the time of this report.
