STUDENTS of Oviri-Ogor secondary school, had in a ‘Save Our Souls’ message appealed to the state government to rescue them from life threatening structures they are learning under and provide them with learning materials in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
This appeal was made by the senior and junior students of the institution while fielding questions newsmen during a visit to the school.
Speaking, the Head boy of Oviri-Ogor secondary school, Moses Miracle said, “Our school is just like place that the government has forgotten, there are no chairs for students to sit.
Some students especially in JSS 1, do sit on the floor to learn, in our Science lab,we only have a calendar of skeleton as lab equipment, the entire roof the building is in a bad state and if rain fall during school hours, you will pity us.
“We are appealing to the state government and other spirited individuals to come for our rescue as the building might just fall on us if urgent attention is not taken.”
Also speaking the Head girl of the school, Origho said, We are appealing to government to help us from this situation, whenever the rain fall, our classrooms are flooded because of the bad roof.
“If you move around,you will see that the entire buildings in the school are all cracked open which is posing serious risk to us.
“The learning environment of conducive as students of two classes over 120 in numbers are completely compressed in one classroom because of the bad nature of building.
“Some sit on the broken floor and windows to learn, we have no perimeter fencing and that is pose a threat us because of suspected invaders during school hours.
“Our principal office have been burgled severally by this invaders and properties belonging to the school stolen. Our teachers don’t have staff room the nature of the current one is nothing to write home about.
“And because the school is not fenced, students cannot be controlled as they ran into the nearby bush or forest and that is really having negative effects on us.
“We are calling on the state government to help in providing a conducive learning environment for us. We have a Governor that gives ear to every aspect and we are pleading for him to come to oir aid.”
It would be recalled that in February 2021, suspected kidnappers invaded Oviri-Ogor secondary school and adopted a female teacher and the students bravery and community youths, the adopted teacher was rescued.
