THE Asaba branch of Olomu Progress Union, has donated branded notebooks to all public schools in Olomu Kingdom to enhance and promote education in all communities of the kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Olomu Progress Union, Asaba branch, was led by Mr Paul Owumi and Emmanuel Kuejubola.
It was observed that both primary and secondary schools visited during the exercise were without perimeter fencing as that could lead to easy access by hoodlums.
Among schools that benefitted are, Ovwor Mixed secondary school, Oguname primary school, Okpare Grammar school, Etako Primary school, Okpare, Umolo primary and secondary schools, Ovwodokpokpo primary school, Oviarien primary school 1, Oviri-Olomu amongst others in Olomu Kingdom.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr Paul Owumi said, “There is nothing we can give back home than this and no matter how we rate the Nigeria education system today, we just have to do something about it in our little capacity.
It is clear that only government cannot fund education and we thought it wise within ourselves that we should impact little on our children at home,and that is the motivation.
“And in our little way of encouraging them, we decided to pick the best two students, male and female from each of the secondary schools in Olomu Kingdom and fund their WAEC enrollment as a way of encouraging others.
“There are some other activities we have lined up for this program and as at when we came onward assessment fee months and we happy that the ministry of education has come to some of the schools to attend to other pressing needs.”
Also speaking, a member of the team, Emmanuel Kuejubola said, “We came, because we have to give back to our communities, we have seen the four walls of education and our children that will succeed us, must get quality education.
Speaking further, Kuejubola disclosed that the union is in touch with relevant authorities in Delta State to officially get the information to the State Universal Basic Education headed by Hon Samuel Mariere.
“We will ensure that the commissioner for education and the State Governor would be notified about the challenges these schools are currently passing through.
Principal and Head Teachers of schools visited expressed joy over the kind gesture of Olomu Progress Union Asaba branch and they appealed for more assistance from spirited individuals.
They however lamented the lack of perimeter fencing of their various schools, and office chairs and table and sitting desks for the students and pupils respectively.
