Comrade John Emonena Akpodiete, JP, has been elected and sworn in as the chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Ughelli North, Branch E, and Central Motor Park, with a vow to revamp the transport system under his reign for the next four years in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Ughelli, Akpodiete, who called for the cooperation of all stakeholders held that, the central motor park, being the mother of all parks in Ughelli North, would be revived, revamp to gain its lost glory.
According to him, “This park ought not to be they way because it it birthed all other parks in Ughelli north, but now that i am the chairman, more units will be created in ensuring that they work effectively.
“All the motor parks in Ughelli broke out from here and we cannot allow the mother park to remain lonely and dejected.
“Since I was sworn in as chairman, the park is gradually coming back as different activities are begining to spring up.
“I can boldly say, that as at today, we are loading Ibadan, Ife, Onitsha and some other states across the country, unlike before now that it was moribund.
“Though we are lacking vehicles that would convey passengers to other places like, Asaba, Bomadi, Oleh, Ozoro, Uwheru, Patani and Warri.
“With the current publicity we are giving to the park, things will turn out to be more positive and productive.
“We are trying our best in bringing back the vehicles that left here to the east/west road, conveying passengers along the road to Kwale, Isoko, Asaba and other major cities.
“The stress of taking cab or keke from the urban to the road side before embarking on a journey has reduced because of the comfort of our vehicles with experienced drivers.
“It is unsafe for persons to be using Keke as means of transportation especially on the highways from one local government to another, it is very risky and life threatening.
“We have created several units and offices like, Onitsha unit, Pickup and light truck unit, Trailers and Market units and they are functioning properly without any hitches.
“In other to make the environment serene, we do embarked on sanitation exercise every Saturday and last Saturday of the month. I am calling on all others to join hands with us and make our motor park resourceful.”
