Youths from Oteri community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have elected Mr Esegine Steven Orute chairman for the next 48 months.
Esegine defeated his rivals, Mr Orowhe Eloho and Edjejovwo Onoriode with 257 votes respectively, in an open ballot election held at the community Town Hall on Wednesday, October 25.
It would be recalled that youth activities were suspended indefinitely by the community elders council and stakeholders over issues that were lately resolved.
It was gathered that, Esegine Steven Orute, Orowhe Eloho and Edjejovwo Onoriode contested for the youth chairmanship position and Esegine Steven Orute won the election with 257 votes, while his opponents scored zero votes respectively.
According to the Oteri electoral committee chairman, Emurotu Omorere Raymond, “Three persons, Esegine Steven Orute, Orowhe Eloho, Edjejovwo indicated interest for the chairmanship position, two persons, Diamond Festus, Felix Uruemuraye, vied vice chairman, while Ubiomo Ejenavi and Gometi contested for PRO respectively.
The other positions of Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary were returned unopposed.
And having scored the highest number of valid votes cast at the Oteri community Youth Election,
Comr Orute Esegine, won the chairmanship position with 257 votes was declared the winner.
“Diamond Festus scored 275 votes to beat Uruemuraye Felix who got 65 votes, as vice Chairman, while Gometi Godspower got 186 votes to defeat Ubiomo Ejenavi Bright 6 votes as Public Relations Officer, PRO,”
Addressing journalists, Chief Dr. Uteme Bateren, JP, GCOB, expressed happiness for the successful election and charged those elected to always liaised with the council of elders, women fold and the age grade in order to have a peaceful administration.
“The election was free and fair and if I must correct something there was no issues, it was just some people interest that wanted to cause confusion.
“The community leadership declared that everybody should put behind their interest and work towards the community interest.
He appealed to the newly executive to heed and act according to their manifestos as promised during their campaign and they should listen to positive others because There is no king without a village.
Highlight of the event, was the oath of office administered on them by Chief Dr. Uteme Bateren, JP, GCOB, on behalf of the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
