DESOPADEC Commissioner representing Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie and Urhobos in Warri, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode has disclosed that all leaders of Urhobo nation are behind senatorial bid of the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the DESOPADEC board, Chief John Nani because with him at the National Assembly, to represent the people of Delta Central senatorial district.
Oyibode who made this revelation at Udu local government area of Delta state, while addressing newsmen said, “Nani has what it takes to change the narrative of the people if elected to be a senator representing Delta Central senatorial district at Abuja come 2023.
He said, “The entire Urhobo youths of the party, PDP, are unanimously calling on him to throw his hat in the ring to contest as senator as his past performances in the various political offices he has held in the state, stand him shoulder high above every and any contestant.
“It was as a result of Nani’s superlative performance as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly in attracting development to his Constituency, that the traditional institution gave to him the chieftaincy title of ‘Aghwemutuwevwi’ (One who brings development to his people) of Idjerhe kingdom.
According to Oyibode, “Nani’s performance as a Commissioner for Environment in the state was a feat that the incumbent governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa promoted him to the strategic office of the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, EDFA in the State-owned Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.
“The Executive Director of Finance and Administration, EDFA, DESOPADEC, Olorogun John Obukowho Nani is an Urhobo man from Jesse. He has served in various capacities in Urhobo land and if you recall, during the infamous Jesse crisis, he was one of those people who helped in no small way to quell the mayhem.
A critical look at the past records of John Nani were what led him being elected to the House of Assembly to represent the people of Ethiope West Constituency and his influence attracted so much development to the land,
“John Nani is a man who has the pains and desires of the Urhobo at heart, a very straight-forward person and I can tell you that for the period I have worked with him, I have observed that anything Urhobo is in-born in his heart to ensure that Urhobo gets to a level where we cannot be used as second class citizens in a State where we are the majority.
“We need such high profile personality to go and represent us at the Senate. There are people from other places who are there at the Senate who have influenced a lot of development to their states. But the Urhobo nation seems to be lacking behind.
“It is laughable to hear people of questionable characters to be calling him a political neophyte in the affairs Delta central and the state politics”.
