The 3rd maiden edition of Isoko nations cup for peace towards sustainable development in Isoko land has kicked off at the Oleh township stadium Isoko South local government area of Delta State with Igbide trading tackles with Emede community.
In his welcome address the chairman of the local organizing committee and 2nd vice president Isoko Development Union Chief Dan Odhomo said that “The tournament is unique and remarkable, is all about peaceful co-existence, brotherly love, communual integration and unity amongst Isoko communities.
Chief Odhomo recalled that during the regime of High Chief Iduh Amadhe as President General of Isoko Development Union, the annual event was initiated by the Late Majority leader Hon. Tim Owhefere of blessed memory who donated a giant trophy various team are competing for today.
He noted that this edition of the tournament has so much ingredients embedded in it, noting that apart from using it to curb youth restiveness, it will also be used for talent and skill development and promote sport in the area.
He added that football scouts are invited from Lagos who will help to pick some of our skillful players for onward integration into international clubs in Europe and other parts of the world.
He also said that about thirty two matches will be played during the tournament in both Isoko South and North and the finals will be played at the Oleh township stadium on the 22nd of December 2021.
It will also be recalled that the first edition was won by Olomoro Clan while the second edition was won by Owhelogbo community.
Also speaking the former President General of Isoko Development Union High Chief Iduh Amadhe noted that the tournament is to promote, foster peace and unity amongst the various communities in Isoko nation.
He lauded the two communities (Igbide and Emede), who played the opening match for obeying the called for peace, describing them as special communities.
He noted that there is great peaceful co-existence between the two communities, saying that today Igbide people can go to Emede and Emede can go to Igbide.
At the end of the encounter the Emede community team defeated Igbide community team by one goal to nil.
