An Officer attached to the Federal Road Safety Corp, Ughelli Unit yet to be identified has been crushed to death and many others injured in an accident in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
The incident occurred along the East/West road by Ekrerhavwe-Agbarho junction. It was gathered.
According to sources, “The FRSC officers were on patrol when a blue Toyota Camry with red no: AGL 405 GJ was coming from Warri rammed into their stationed van with reg no: A0/1-882 RS and killed one of the officers and injured two others.
The source who spoke on anonymous condition disclosed that the vehicle of the Road Safety Officers was cut into two parts due to the excess speed of driver”.
When newsmen visited Ughelli Central Hospital, the corpse of the officers has been deposited at the morgue.
A Medical expert who spoke said, “One of the men was brought in dead and we have to deposit his corpse at the mortuary, one other was attended to and the other was rushed to private hospital for medical attention.
When contacted the FRSC Unit Commander of Ughelli, demands to know the headquarters the newsmen that came before she would speak.
She said, “You are from Pointer, Vanguard, Galaxy TV, can you all show me the headquarters of your medium? you can write anything you want, it is not my business”.She said.
Another senior officer who spoke said, “Our madam is not her right frame of mind and she cannot speak with you guys right now because she is not authorized to do so.
He said, “The Toyota Camry coming from Warri rammed into our vehicle and one of our officer was killed in the process and two others were rushed to Central Hospital Ughelli and Ufor Hospital for medical attention”.
“We cannot give out the name of the officer that was killed because we are yet to inform his family and you can more details from the State headquarters and not from here”.
Lamenting over the gruesome killing of the FRSC, Dr. Joel Ejutememuh, President of Urhobo Youth Vision said “Our Officers should be very cautious while discharging their duties.They should be safety cautious about their own lives while protecting road users. And road users should be careful and obey traffic rules.
A similar situation almost happened at Orerokpe were a driver would have kill a Road Safety Officer if not God. They must be careful in discharging their duties.
